Borealis Manufactory is the handmade factory from the North. ‘Borealis’ means “to be of the north” and the word ‘manufactory’ was used at its peak during the Industrial Revolution in the 1800’s. Cast in silver, elementary lines and simplified shapes combine and repeat, with slight variations and irregularities.
Heidi Thompson was born in Canada surrounded by mountains, lakes, sky and forest. She is inspired by natural beauty. Her aim as a painter is to capture beauty – not by painting a landscape as she knows it – with trees, mountains, clouds and sunsets, but rather by painting the essence of nature using her elements – color, light, patterns, movement and space. Inform Interiors owner Niels Bendtsen has been working with contemporary furniture all his life. In 1963, he opened his first retail store in West Vancouver, Danet Interiors, focusing on well-designed and well-crafted Danish modern furniture from companies like Fritz Hansen, which the store represents to this day. After seven years in West Vancouver, the store moved to 97 Water Street in Gastown where it has stood ever since.

Established in 2012, Silvia K Ceramics is a studio in the heart of Brighton, East Sussex, UK. Coming from Slovakia, a country of incredible heritage, Silvia has always had a passion and respect for crafts. She believes that heritage is a vital element of our cultural and social history. Silvia works in a thoughtful way and produces work that shows an aesthetic sensibility and reflects her interests. Ideas are fuelled by her research into ceramic ware from sources as diverse as Spanish drug jars to Iraqi dinner plates. Her collections are contemporary interpretation of old artifacts.
The INTRO concept was launched by Small Office (previously smallpond) in 2013 in New York, as an intimate platform to present a selective cross section of design. Tiny Badger Ceramics is a small-batch production ceramics studio based in San Diego. Founded in 2015 by Heather McCalla, Tiny Badger creates handmade, functional wares for the home and table. The forms and textures are drawn from vintage glassware that Heather has collected over the years, bringing new life – and a modern twist – to these classic forms. All wares are porcelain and are made using the process of ceramic slip casting. The slip is tinted in a variety of colors, and the finished wares are left unglazed on the exteriors to showcase the silky, matte finish of the porcelain. Interior surfaces are finished in a glossy white glaze, highlighting and complementing the clean simple lines of the forms.
In all of her work, Trish Knight has collaborated with her clients to achieve a balance of sophistication and livability; producing interiors that are both timeless and elegant. Working from her Westside studio, Trish and her team work on projects of all sizes – from waterfront West Vancouver homes and cozy Pender Island cottages, to luxurious estates in San Diego, Palm Springs and most recently Singapore.

Uta Nagel’s fascination with glass design started in Toronto after design school. While interning with Diamond Schmitt Architects, she was asked to fabricate diverse art glass space dividers, wall cladding and exterior glass design for their commercial projects. Our process of object making utilizes traditional pairings of domestic materials with processes that resemble the natural landscape native to Canada. The physical structure of each piece is influenced by the simplicity of minimalist sculpture, and enhanced by craftsmanship, texture and marquetry. Each piece is handmade; building an honest union between a product and a maker dedicated to the creation of well-crafted, unique design. Our hope is that at home, our pieces can represent a reunion with the wilderness (its primary source of inspiration), and a re-connection with craft and nature.
